Learning from Our Local Heroes

At Little Red Hen Early Years, we believe that some of the best learning happens outside the classroom — in the real world, through real experiences. As part of our exciting Field Trips program, our children recently visited the Fire Station Thanisandra at Manyata Tech Park to discover, first-hand, the incredible work of our city’s fire safety team.

From the moment they arrived, our young learners were greeted with warm smiles and an infectious enthusiasm from the firefighters. The children’s eyes lit up as they stepped into the station, taking in the bright red fire engines, shiny helmets, and the neatly arranged safety gear.

The highlight of the trip was an engaging live demonstration by the fire team. They showcased how they respond to emergencies in high-rise buildings — using powerful water hoses, hydrants, and their specialized equipment to control fires quickly and efficiently. The roar of the water jets and the sheer skill of the firefighters left our children wide-eyed with wonder and admiration.

The visit to Fire Station Thanisandra was more than just an exciting outing — it was a valuable lesson in courage, teamwork, and community service. Our children learned about the importance of fire safety, the bravery it takes to be a firefighter, and how these everyday heroes put their lives on the line to protect others.

Back at school, the children eagerly shared their stories, drawings, and new vocabulary inspired by the trip. For many, it sparked a newfound curiosity and respect for the people who keep our communities safe.

Through such experiences, Little Red Hen continues to nurture not just knowledge, but empathy, gratitude, and an awareness of the world beyond the classroom.
